Schools and sustainability in South Africa: Piloting a reflexive model for accredited in service teacher education

Teacher professional development course, “schools and sustainability”. The course was developed to strengthen participation of local teachers and pupils in curriculum-centred environmental learning and change processes. In the course, they worked with teachers from schools to develop lesson plans and classroom activities with an environmental and sustainability focus. To respond to the challenges of implementing the environmental and sustainability objectives within a new curriculum framework, the “schools and sustainability” course was designed to allow for ongoing action, reflection, and change in schools and classrooms.
